Staff Veterinarian
DVM
Dr. Whitton originally moved to Oregon 10 years ago after receiving her bachelor's degree from UCLA in Anthropology. She then spent a few years working in Global Health and traveling to the far reaches of the globe to try and better understand the interface between human and animal disease. In the process, she realized the great extent to which animals impact our daily lives. She then attended veterinary school at UC Davis, where she pioneered community health education programs and developed a love for small animal general practice and the human-animal bond.
After practicing in Alaska and in California, Dr. Whitton has made her way back to Portland, finding her home at VCA Laurelhurst. She loves getting to know her clients, and thrives on the special bond veterinarians get to make with their patients. She believes that the cornerstones to providing excellent veterinary care are trust and transparency, and she strives to ensure that each pet parent is provided with a supportive environment in which to discuss their pet's health. She is particularly passionate about fear-free handling, preventative care and internal medicine.
Dr. Whitton lives in Portland with her partner, their retired sled dog (an Alaskan Husky named Bernie Sanders), and two fluffy cats (Teddy Roosevelt and Garth Algar). In her free time, she enjoys rigorous uphill hikes, ceramics, painting and fermenting foods.
