Dr. Melody Chen was born and raised in the Bay Area of California. She graduated with her undergraduate degree from University of California, Davis, and with her veterinary degree from University of Minnesota. She then completed a rotating internship at VCA West Los Angeles Animal Hospital, an internal medicine specialty internship at BluePearl Animal Hospital in Spring, Texas, and another internal medicine specialty internship at VCA Animal Specialty and Emergency Center in Los Angeles, California. Most recently, Dr. Chen earned a master's degree during her internal medicine residency at The Ohio State University.
Dr. Chen has developed a special interest in gastrointestinal disease, which is the basis of her master's degree research. This research was a collaboration between the Comparative Hepatobiliary Intestinal Research Program at the Ohio State University and the Gastrointestinal Laboratory at the Texas A&M University. Presentation of this research at the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine Forum has earned her an award from the Comparative Gastroenterology Society. She also had the privilege to train under a double-boarded internal medicine and nutrition specialists during her residency. Dr. Chen continues to contribute to research in this field, via an ongoing clinical trial in pancreatitis at The Ohio State University. She became board certified in 2023.
In her free time, Dr. Chen enjoys playing video games. She shares her home with her Shiba Inu, Tracer, and two cats, Kupo and Rikku.
