Local Medical Issues
There are numerous medical issues that can impact your pets' health, it is important to remember these year round. For example, heartworms, can affect both dogs AND cats. Heartworms can cause serious respiratory disease and even be fatal. There is no treatment for cats with heartworm, only prevention. Since it is transmitted by mosquitoes, which thrive in our region, it's a serious cause for concern. Winter temperatures do not get cold enough in this area to kill mosquito eggs; it is a year round risk. Don't be fooled, strictly indoor pets are at risk too as it is common to find mosquitoes in our homes. Likewise the potential for flea infestation is also common. Fleas irritate everyone in the household. They often transmit intestinal parasites to our dogs and cats; this is why yearly intestinal parasite screening is important, even for our indoor only pets. Fleas can also be the cause of skin allergies and other blood borne diseases. Another problem affecting both humans and pets is Lyme disease, which is transmitted by ticks. Lyme disease can cause serious health issues such as, joint pain, kidney failure, neuropathies, and other fatal complications. Due to the mild weather in this region ticks live through the winter, putting everyone at risk year round. Allow our staff to educate you on the preventative health care products we carry.
We harness the scale and strength of our global network while acknowledging each individual's contribution. We work locally to improve the lives of all who interact with our brand.
