Dr. Amelia Gould grew up in Rapids City, a small town in Illinois. She completed her undergraduate training at Illinois State University and studied abroad in Scotland. She graduated with highest honors, earning degrees in Biology/Chemistry and Communications, and completed research looking at nesting stress in freshwater turtles. Several years of graduate school instilled a love of teaching, a passion that has continued to shine during interactions with colleagues and clients. Dr. Gould earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at the University of Illinois. She managed the Wildlife Medical Clinic, working intensively with raptors, passerines, native mammals, and reptiles. During vet school, she also worked as an ER technician in clinical pathology and completed research examining the effects of ultraviolet light on leopard geckos. After graduation, Dr. Gould completed a rigorous small animal rotating internship in San Diego. She comes to us after finishing a twelve-month fellowship at the Vancouver Aquarium in British Columbia for advanced training in marine mammal and aquatic animal medicine. A love of the Pacific Northwest brought her just a few hours south to Kitsap County to join our emergency team. She enjoys the variety and clinical challenge of emergency medicine and strives to ease the emotional stress of an unexpected ER visit. In her free time, Dr. Gould enjoys hiking, reading, playing piano, and riding motorcycles. She has the best German Shepherd named Kato who is her constant shadow. Dr. Gould is proud to be a Fear Free Certified Professional, and pledges to hold each pet's emotional, as well as physical, well-being in mind at all times.
