Determining the correct diagnosis of your pet’s problem is very important in the successful treatment and ultimate recovery of your pet. Whatever the reason you come to see us be it diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, surgical services or emergency treatment Camino Animal Clinic is available to care for your pet. Our thorough services and combination of latest techniques with experienced methods ensure your pet is always treated like one of our own.
Obtaining the proper diagnosis may require diagnostic tests such as:
- Comprehensive physical exam – depending on what abnormalities are noted, specific diagnostic tests can be prioritized and discussed
- Complete blood count – this allows us to determine if there is presence of inflammation, infection, parasitism, or anemia (just to name a few) and is coupled with a smear of your pet’s blood for complete evaluation
- Serum biochemistry profile – this provides insight into internal organ function (liver, kidney, etc) so we may better understand if clinical symptoms are due to metabolic issues or disorders in a specific organ system
- Urinalysis – based on results found in urinalysis we can decipher if kidney function is appropriate or if there is presence of urinary tract infection
- Urine culture and sensitivity – if the urinalysis is suspicious of a UTI we will send a sterile sample to a reference laboratory for testing on specific growth of bacteria and which antibiotics are most appropriate for therapy
- Culture and sensitivity – samples of skin, body fluids and fluid collected from masses can be sent off to decipher if a bacteria is present and which antibiotics would be most appropriate for therapy
- Radiographs – we have digital x-ray and can have results instantly; this imaging modality gives us information about bones and to an extent soft tissue
- Ultrasound – this modality allows for a more in-depth assessment of areas of the body such as the abdomen with all it’s internal organs and soft tissue structures and the chest
- Endoscopy – this modality allows for visualization of mouth, nose, throat, colon, and rectum
- Appropriate medication selection – based on the results and information gathered from any number of diagnostic tests, we can make applicable decisions on which medications and therapies will best serve your pet
