Your first visit will allow us to get to know each other, check your pet's health, and begin wellness care to help prevent against future illnesses.
During your pet’s first visit, your veterinarian will do a head-to-tail exam and check overall health, including the skin and coat, eyes and ears, teeth and gums, heart, lungs and other vital organs.
The veterinarian will also check your pet for fleas, ticks and other external parasites.
Your veterinarian will also ask questions about your pet’s diet, habits and activities, and discuss overall health and wellness including:

If your pet is scheduled for a drop-off examination, such as x-rays or ultrasounds, we ask that you please drop your pet off between 8:00 am - 9:00 am. You would have been advised when you made the appointment if your pet was not supposed to have any food or drink prior to this appointment or procedure. One of our staff will contact you during the day to arrange pick up or make other arrangements.
VCA Blairstown Animal Hospital performs surgery Monday through Friday. If your pet is scheduled for surgery, he or she is not allowed any food or water after midnight the evening before surgery. We request that you drop off your pet anytime between 8:00 am - 9:00 am. At this time, you will be asked some pertinent questions and contact information by our receptionists. You will also be asked to review and sign a consent form for the surgery. After the surgery is done one of our staff will contact you to let you know how the surgery went and to inform you as to what time he or she may be picked up. If your dog or cat is a male and being neutered, they will be able to go home the same day, while females here for spay will spend the night and go home the following morning.
