Dr. Pierce, a full-time veterinarian, has been with Mesa for most of his veterinary career. Originally from North Hollywood, he attended the University of California at Davis for both his undergraduate and his veterinary degree. After finishing his degree in Biological Sciences in 1988, Dr. Pierce continued on to earn his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1993. In addition to his studies, he served as class Vice President for two years. Though a general practitioner, his professional interests include surgery, ophthalmology, and exotic animals, which keep him busy at the hospital on a regular basis.
Dr. Pierce spends a lot of his free time working with parent's organizations. Serving as president of the PTA and a member of the School Site Council, he also spent four years serving as president of the parent booster club which transformed from a grassroots organization to a fully accredited non-profit organization during his term. Dr. Pierce and his wife Joy, an elementary school teacher, both enjoy cooking, though he also enjoys golfing, games, darts, boating, wine and home brewing. Their son, Jeremy, a basketball enthusiast and performer with a youth performance group, helps keep the Pierce family entertained. Merlin, a crow Dr. Pierce rescued in 1990, rounds out the busy household.
