Dr. Ghislaine Switz first joined VCA Gateway Animal Hospital in autumn of 2018. She began her educational journey by earning a bachelor's degree in biology and French studies from Rice University in 2003. Thereafter, she completed a master's degree in animal behavior and biological sciences at Tufts University in 2005. Finally, she graduated from Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Medicine in 2010, and moved to Southern California shortly thereafter to complete a year long internship in equine medicine and surgery at West Coast Equine. Afterwards, she moved to Texas to work as a shelter veterinarian for the Houston SPCA, where she undertook both large and small animal clinical cases. Eventually, she returned to Southern California, where she began providing relief veterinary services to small animal hospitals throughout Los Angeles County. Relief work is what initially brought her to VCA Gateway; she was offered a staff veterinarian position, and began her associateship in Autumn of 2018.
Dr. Switz's professional interests include preventative care, nutrition/weight management, behavior, gastroenterology, cardiology, and anesthesiology.
Dr. Switz lives in West LA with her husband and two beloved cats, Hendrix the 7-year-old Siamese mix and Page the 7-year-old Domestic Shorthair. Her other favorite pastimes include dancing (ie. former pre-professional classically trained ballet dancer), drawing, video gaming with her husband, and playing with her kitties.
