Dr. Laura Shultz joined VCA Albany Animal Hospital in June 2023. She is originally from Florida, but has lived in several states before settling in California. She received her Bachelor's degree from Northwestern University, then earned a MPVM and Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from UC Davis. For Dr. Shultz, the best part of being a veterinarian is finding solutions that support the health of both the furry (or scaly or feather-y) and non-furry family members. Her certifications include Fear-Free and Cat-Friendly, and she has a special interest in One Health, a philosophy that emphasizes the interconnected nature of human health, animal health (pets, livestock, wildlife), as well as the health of the environment around us all.
Outside of work, Dr. Shultz loves art, nature, and reading. You can often find her curled up with her dog, tea, and a good book on the couch; out under some tall trees on a trail looking for wildlife; or covered in paint somewhere. She currently has 3 pets – one dog (Echo) and two cats (Disco and Lugh). She also grew up with various animals including fish, hermit crabs, hamsters, a rabbit, and horses.
